Presentation by Salisu Dahiru, National Coordinator, Federal Ministry of Environment, on the PGA/ REDD+ process in Nigeria to date.

Preparatory research was carried out at the Cross River State level in Nigeria, to better inform the further PGA process and discussion amongst key stakeholders. The research was being conducted on the following four areas; stakeholder analysis (who are key stakeholders to include throughout the process), the private sector (to more meaningfully involve key private actors in the PGA process), traditional means of communication (to ensure that PGA data and results are made available to local stakeholders in an appropriate manner) and a mapping of governance issues relevant for the REDD+ process in CRS and at national level. This research fed into the workshop discussions.

Based on the indicator development and data collection training provided in Calabar mid January 2013, workshop participants attempted a first draft of the indicator set for the PGA in Nigeria, based upon the previously prioritized governance domains. These will be further refined and validated by the PGA/ REDD+ Research Team and the PGA/ REDD+ Committee.

Organizational structure for the PGA in Nigeria, as agreed in the consultative workshop in Calabar on 17 January 2013. Names for the different groups will appear in the workshop report.

Based on the group work and discussions in the consultative PGA workshop in Calabar (January 2013), the key governance areas or domains were identified and later prioritized by the workshop participants. This prioritized list of governance issues will be the basis for the forthcoming set of indicators upon which governance data and information will be collected.
