Sri Lanka UN-REDD Join hands with volunteers to protect forests and mitigating climate change

 Sri Lanka UN-REDD Programme join hands with the ‘Cycling Tour 2014: Volunteering to Make a Difference’, a project initiated by the Programme in Sri Lanka, organised by the United Nations Volunteers (UNV) in collaboration with the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Skills Development (MYASD) and the Ministry of Social Services.  A group of 20 volunteers will be cycling for two weeks starting from Medawachchiya, leading through several locations including Anuradhapura in the North Central Province, Puttalam in the North Western Province, and end in Colombo on the west coast on 5th December 2014 with the celebration of International Volunteer Day (IVD). The Cycling Tour, supported by the MYASD, the Ministry of Social Services, UN agencies, Volunteer Involving Organizations and Youth-led organizations, will strengthen youth volunteering for peace and development in Sri Lanka. By joining hands with this initiative, the Civil Society Organizations (CSO) Platform of the Sri Lanka UN-REDD Programme, mobilizes volunteers and the general publics’ active involvement in forest protection.
