#74 June/August 2019

Newsletter | Sat, 01 Jun, 2019 · 3 min read

In this newsletter, we look at the ambitious upcoming Decade of Ecosystem Restoration which presents a great opportunity for the UN-REDD Programme and its partner countries to build on more than 10-years of experience to turn the tide of environmental degradation. We are confident that together we can pull it off.

We also reflect on the linkages between REDD+, forest tenure and Indigenous People's rights. While there is progress, challenging gaps remain.

African countries continue to make progress on REDD+ safeguards, with Zambia being the first in the region to submit a 'summary of information' to the UNFCCC. This is a milestone achievement for Zambia, and for Africa.

The blogs in this edition will inform you how agroforestry can help achieve Sustainable Development Goals and, among others, how High Forest, Low-Deforestation (HFLD) developing countries play an important role in global climate change mitigation and adaptation but need better access to climate finance.

Don't miss the photo essay under Forest News on Argentina's biodiversity and forest conservation effort, highlighting UN-REDD's support for the country.

Our next edition of the newsletter (September) will have an exciting new visual design. In addition, starting this month, we will keep you updated with regular REDD+ ROUNDUPs packed with important information on upcoming events and the latest publications.

Wishing you all a great World Environment Day!
