Are particularly relevant for Indigenous Peoples and refers to the total environment of the areas which peoples concerned occupy or otherwise use (ILO Convention 169).

Alternative definition
Part or all of the home range that is defended to the exclusion of other animals, especially conspecifics. Territories may be defended by individuals, breeding pairs or social groups, either year-round or seasonally.
