Grievance redress mechanism (GRM)

Definition

The formal and informal means of receiving and facilitating resolution (through dialogue, negotiation, mediation or arbitration) of complaints or disputes, of groups and individuals, whose rights may be affected through the implementation of REDD+ activities. Not a UNFCCC safeguard requirement, but some countries choose to incorporate (existing, strengthened and/or new) GRMs into their country approach as a contribution to addressing and respecting safeguards. Some countries are also considering use of GRMs as a source of information for their SIS.
