The development of a decentralised National Forest Monitoring System in Zambia under the UN-REDD program is not only providing a basis for reliable field data on deforestation and forest degradation, but has empowered provincial staff and greatly improved their ability to practice effective forest stewardship in the provinces of Zambia. This has yielded a win-win for MRV reporting and improved forest management in Zambia.
