Agreement for Panama’s National Programme Presented at UN-REDD Policy Board Meeting in December

After several months of debate and constructive dialogue between the Government of Panama's National Environment Authority (ANAM) and National Coordinating Body of Indigenous Peoples in Panama (COONAPIP), their agreement was presented during the eleventh meeting of the UN-REDD Programme Policy Board, which took place from 9-10 December 2013 in Geneva, Switzerland.

Republic of Indonesia Appoints Head for New National REDD+ Agency

In December 2013, Mr. Heru Prasetyo was appointed as the first Head of Indonesia’s new National REDD+ Agency. The agency is the world’s first dedicated REDD+ national institution reporting directly to the Head of State.

Mongolia Starts Consultations on Action Plan for Forest Monitoring System for REDD+

Mongolia held a consultation workshop on its National Forest Monitoring System Action Plan from 19-20th November 2013 in Ulaanbaatar, gathering 60 national and international stakeholders from government, NGOs, academia and international organizations.

Strengthening Stakeholder Engagement in Sri Lanka

The UN-REDD National Programme in Sri Lanka, in collaboration with Department of Forest as lead implementing partner, organized two separate workshops to establish an Indigenous Peoples’ Forum and a Civil Society Organizations (CSO) Platform on 29 November and 10 December 2013, respectively.

Main Findings and Lessons Learned from a Self-assessment of Civil Society and Indigenous Peoples’ Participation in REDD+ in the DRC

The Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) is one of the pioneer countries in REDD+. As early as 2007 there were discussions in the country on opportunities linked to REDD+, the R-PIN was ready in 2008, and in January 2009 the government launched its preparation for REDD+ in collaboration with Forest Carbon Partnership Facility (FCPF) and the UN-REDD Programme, resulting in the validation of the R-PP in March 2010.
